"Círculo de Vida is a warm and supportive environment that provides interns the opportunity to
enhance and obtain new knowledge in working with the Latino community. The valuable experience I acquired throughout my
first year as a social worker intern has been phenomenal. I had amazing supervision and great support from the multidisciplinary
team of the Licensed Social Worker, Psychologist, Marriage and Family Therapist, and Peer Counselors. The experienced I obtained
has increase my cultural sensitivity and awareness."
- Nelly Marjorie Pino
The primary goal of the internship program is to train
graduate level student interns to become competent clinicians in the field of cancer care.
This includes developing and augmenting existing skills in diagnostic interviewing, treatment planning, and case management.
The program also assists student interns to function as professionals in a clinical or community setting.
Interns learn how to interact with other professionals as part of an interdisciplinary team and how to interface
with medical and community agencies. The interns are exposed to general professional issues including cultural diversity and ethical
considerations that affect Latinos living with cancer.
